Privacy Policy

Short version: PlaceSnap does not collect, store or share any personal data. No account or API key is required. Location extraction is processed through PlaceSnap's own secure server and is not stored.

1. Who we are

PlaceSnap is a Chrome browser extension developed and maintained by Tonina Trischitta, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Contact: mesaclara.admin@gmail.com

2. What data PlaceSnap collects

PlaceSnap does not collect any personal data. Specifically:

We do not collect your name, email address or any identifying information
We do not collect your browsing history or the URLs you visit
We do not use cookies or tracking of any kind
No account or login is required to use PlaceSnap

3. How PlaceSnap works

When you click the PlaceSnap button on a video or post, the extension:

Reads the text content of the current page (video title, description, transcript if available) — this happens locally in your browser
Sends that text to PlaceSnap's secure server, which uses the Anthropic Claude AI to extract location names
Returns the extracted locations to your browser and displays them in the PlaceSnap panel
Does not store the page content or the extracted locations — nothing is retained after the request is complete

4. PlaceSnap's server

PlaceSnap operates a backend server to process location extraction. This server:

Receives the text content you send from the current page
Forwards it to Anthropic's Claude AI API to extract locations
Does not log, store or retain the content of your requests
Does not associate requests with any user identity

Your use of PlaceSnap's AI features is also subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

5. Permissions we request and why

activeTab — to read the content of the current YouTube, Instagram or TikTok tab
scripting — to inject the PlaceSnap button and panel into the page
contextMenus — to add the PlaceSnap option to the right-click menu on Instagram and TikTok
host permissions (youtube.com, instagram.com, tiktok.com, web-production-ec5c6.up.railway.app, nominatim.openstreetmap.org) — to run PlaceSnap on supported sites and call the services needed for location extraction and geocoding

6. Third-party services

Anthropic Claude API — for AI-powered location extraction, called via PlaceSnap's server. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy
OpenStreetMap Nominatim — for geocoding location names to coordinates for KML export. See OSM Privacy Policy
Google Maps — links open in Google Maps in your browser. See Google's Privacy Policy

7. Data retention

PlaceSnap retains no user data. The extension stores nothing on your device. Our server does not log or retain request content. Exported HTML and KML files are saved locally on your device and are entirely under your control.

8. Children's privacy

PlaceSnap is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of PlaceSnap after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
